Fijit Friends – Christmas 2011 Toy of the Year?

Fijit Friends - Christmas 2011 Toy of the YearWelcome to the wonderful world of interactive toys with the four Fijit Friends, who are sure to be your daughter’s new best friend in no time! With their different personalities, dancing mode, musical beat and voice recognition, and ability to actively respond with over 150 phrases, Fijit Friends are both pretty smart and pretty cute toys!

Fijit Friends Personalities

You’re either going to totally love or totally hate the Fijit Friends, the latest interactive dancing talking robot toys from Mattel. Supposedly created from a musical science experiment, there are four Fijit Friends in all, each a different bubblegum color and with their own personality. Willa, the purple one, is smart, stylish and trendy, the natural leader of the gang; Serafina, the pink one, is the sweetie-pie; girly one of the group; Logan, the blue one, is sporty, loyal and loves animals; and Sage, the lime green one, is adventurous and likes exploring. The look of them is sort of like a cute marshmallow blob crossed with friendly robot crossed with some kind of bug, and they have squishy soft rubber bodies that are satisfyingly squeezable.

Fijit Friends – Interactive Toys

But cuteness aside, what makes the Fijit Friends fun is their interactive functions. They can recognize musical beats and dance to them, they can recognize your voice and respond to 30 odd keywords with relevant phrases (apparently there are over 150 phrases – including jokes – in their databases) and poking their bellies will get them to move too, and when you say goodnight they glow like a nightlight! I personally love the wiggly movement when they dance – it’s the kind of really silly fun that most kids enjoy.

On the negative side, their electronic robot voices can be a bit irritating – and if you don’t like toys that make noise, this is definitely not the toy for you! Finally, a word of caution – the toys are supplied with demo batteries which you MUST replace right away to get the full range of functions.

The Fijit Friends are sure to be a hit this winter and thats why they’ve made it into our Top 20 Christmas toys for 2011. Whether they will still be popular Christmas 2012 is another question.
