Lalaloopsy Land Review

Here at Tommys Toys we’re all about helping you find the latest “must have” toys at a great price, but as Tommy goes about the business of playing (!) he also wants to keep you as well informed as he can. The following is a review of the Lalaloopsy official website and, more specifically, Lalaloopsy Land the interactive play area of the website where kids can discover the make believe world of Lalaloopsy, meet the different characters, play simple games and change the dolls outfits. If you want to find out more about the dolls themselves and buy at the lowest prices then click through to our dedicated Lalaloopsy product section.

Lalaloopsy Website

Firstly can I say that I was hoping to bring you a very positive review of the Lalaloopsy Land website and games. I like the dolls a lot and rate them highly as a children’s toy. The official website, which you can visit here, looks good and certainly lays out the product range well. That, though, is the main problem. Of course MGA Entertainment is trying to sell you a product and that’s fine, but they need to, in my opinion, try to offer parents a little more than just a pretty advertising website.

So the first thing to say about the Lalaloopsy Land play area is that you have to download and install an application called the Unity player. Now that isn’t a big deal in itself but frankly with so many games sites out there for your kids do you really want to have to add some piece of software to your computer just to play a couple of games on this site. If you have a slow internet connection then downloading and running this software will put you off before you’ve even started.

Lalaloopsy Games

Once you have installed the player click play and wait for the player to start working…yawn…you can then choose which character you would like to be. Then there’s another wait as the Lalaloopsy Land loads! Now to be fair my internet connection is a bit slow so maybe the whole site works really quickly for most people. If this is the case for you please leave a comment and let me know.

Once the landscape of Lalaloopsy land appears everything looks quite promising. The playing area is pretty big and the graphics are cute. There’s plenty of exploring to be done, with a big park area in the middle of Lalaloopsy Land and the houses of eight dolls around the sides of the map. It is fun to run around and go and visit the other dolls and see how their houses look. However there’s nothing to do in each house except play that characters game. Here’s a quick rundown of the different character houses and their game.

Jewel Sparkles – A simple blockbuster type game where you knock down diamonds with your bat and ball. Different levels get progressively faster and harder.

Pillow Featherbed – Help her get to sleep by counting sheep. You have to pick out the sheep from lots of different objects.

Bea Spells-a-Lot – A very simple platform game where you jump her pet owl around to collect her school things.

Crumbs Sugar Cookie – Help Cookie collect the right ingredients she needs for her cake by pushing them off the moving travelators.

Peanut Big Top – Quite a tricky game this. Hit the left/right/up/down buttons in the right sequence to keep Peanut juggling.

Spot Splatter Splash – Find your way around the simple maze to color in her fruits!

Mittens Fluff and Stuff – Show your skiing skills in this downhill slalom ski game. Levels get progressively harder.

Dot Starlight – Another quite tricky game where you have to successfully guide Dot’s spaceship home through the various starred hoops.

My overriding feeling about these games is that they will only keep your child amused for a very short time and that none of them have any real educational value. Each game is a generic copy of many other games and not done with enough style to offer anything new.

To sum up, if your children are huge fans of the Lalaloopsy Land and dolls then there’s certainly no harm in letting them enjoy the games on the Lalaloopsy website. If however you’re looking for a more sophisticated playing experience then you will want to send them somewhere like the CBeebies website, where some real time and effort have gone into creating a great playtime experience.
