Lamaze Jacques the Peacock Review
We were given a Jacques the Peacock as a gift to our newborn daughter and, I admit, at first I wasn’t totally convinced. I knew that he had great pedigree – the Lamaze toys are all developed by the well-known Lamaze organization whose objective is to promote “a natural, healthy and safe approach to pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting”- but I didn’t really think this toy had any real value other than decorative.
However, this all changed when our baby was about 4 weeks old and was starting to be a more actively awake and engage more with the outside world. We live a fair distance away from the local supermarket, and car journeys were beginning to be a bit of a trial with a very cross little baby not in the least bit happy about being stuck in her infant car seat.
That’s when I remembered that Lamaze Jacques the Peacock has a very handy link! We attached him onto the handle of the car seat: when the seat is in position in the car the handle rested just at our baby’s eye level. I turned the toy so that the black and white back side of it was visible, and our baby was simply mesmerized!
Play and Grow
As our baby has gotten older – and longer – she is now loves to kick Jacques with her feet; we’ve turned it to the colourful front side so that you can see his face, and it is a real joy to hear her babbling away at him whilst we drive. When we get out and about in the stroller it’s very easy to unclip the toy and reposition it on the stroller and then she can grab it and enjoy the different fabric textures of his tail feathers.
She’s still too young to be able to press the squeaker that is located on one of his feathers, but when we’re sat at a table – for instance – and she needs distracting I can press it and she finds that fascinating! So, all in all, a really great baby toy for the early months!
