LeapFrog Maracas Review

But our favorite in the series is definitely the Learn & Groove Counting Maracas, mainly because shaking maracas is a simple action for most young babies to get to grips with. Having said that, some younger babies might find the maracas a little heavy to lift at first – so although the product is recommended for 6+ months, we would say that the maracas are better suited to toddlers of around 12+ months.

Another point to note is that only one of the maracas is interactive with the sounds, lights, words and counting features that are activated when it is shaken; the other maraca is a traditional one with a simple rattle.  Some might find that rather disappointing, but it actually makes sense – clearly it would be more complicated to coordinate two interactive maracas, and this way you have the option to turn off the interactive one and let baby just shake the rattling one to baby’s own beat or in time to other music, on toys or otherwise.

Clearly the educational features speak for themselves: finding new ways to help teach your baby numbers and colors is always a good thing.  But learning them in a second language is even better! Please note that if you buy this product in the USA then the second language will be Spanish, whilst in Europe the second language is French.
