LEGO Millennium Falcon 2011 (7965) – Star Wars Lego

Lego Millennium Falcon 2011As a pre Christmas present you won’t find a better Lego idea than the Star Wars Advent Calendar, but if you have Lego crazy kids and you’re looking for the ultimate 2011 Christmas gift idea then there’s only one contender… the Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon (7965). For the child who loves Lego, Star Wars, model building and mini figure action games the Lego Millennium Falcon 2011 ticks all the boxes.

Lego millennium falcon 7965 review

OK before Tommy’s Toys take a closer at the 7965 version of the Lego Millennium Falcon I’d like to point out that unless you’re rolling in money (in which case could you lend me a few bucks?) this Lego set should be considered as a main gift for your child. The standard retail price is $139.99 and is definitely, in my opinion, worth every penny, but at this price should be considered for the child that is really going to love it. So who should you buy this Lego Millennium Falcon 2011 for?

The Iconic Star Wars Millennium Falcon

If you love Star Wars it’s hard to think of a vehicle that is more iconic than the Millennium Falcon. The Death Star and AT-AT come close, but hey you don’t really want to go to the Darkside do you? No every kid wants to be Hans Solo or Princess Leia (or maybe Luke, Chewbacca or C-3PO) so if you want to be any of the good guys then the Lego Millennium Falcon is the perfect choice for any Star Wars fan. The beauty of this toy is that it works as either a Star Wars model, to just proudly put on display, or as an actual toy that you play with.

Lego Lovers

It goes without saying that your child will get a lot more out of this Lego Millennium Falcon if he has a love for all things Lego. Whether an avid collector or a hands on enthusiast this is one of the best Lego sets in the last couple of years. Of course you will want to follow the instructions and create the perfect Lego Millennium Falcon but after that, as with all Lego, there are no rules. You can play with it as is, use pieces elsewhere or add to it until it’s completely unrecognizable. Crash and break the Lego Millennium Falcon while playing with it? No problem, just rebuild!

Mad for models

To my mind this is two great toys in one. The LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon 7965 has 1254 pieces to put together (I told you it was value for money) and could well take you 4-5 hours to assemble which, unless you’re going to be obsessive, is a good two days worth of fun right there. Think it could be the day after Boxing Day before your child even starts playing with it! The point is that if your child enjoys model making as well as action toys then this gift fulfils both functions.

Lego millennium falcon dimensions

Another great feature of this Lego Star Wars vehicle is its impressive size. Its dimensions are over 15” (38cm) wide and 4” (10cm) tall and once your Lego Millennium Falcon is built you will be happy to just sit back and admire your handiwork. Its appreciable size also means that there is plenty of room inside the ship to play around as well and this is where the 6 mini figures come into their own. Included in this Star Wars kit are the following Lego mini figures: Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Ben Kenobi, Princess Leia and Darth Vader and 3 lightsabers, 3 blasters and 1 crossbow for plenty of battle fun. What are you waiting for…go save the universe!

You won’t be disappointed with the features of this Lego Millennium Falcon kit. The hull of the ship opens up to allow inside play and the interior is really detailed and looks great. There are twin missiles that you can flick fire and rotatable laser canons. There’s a smugglers compartment that can be detached and an extendable walkway. Finally the cockpit cover is also detachable so you can put in different mini figures

Conclusions

Well this is certainly a gift I would be excited about receiving. With the small pieces it’s not suitable for kids 3 and under and with its extensive instructions this will be a challenge for the under 9’s without a little parental help; but let’s face it you probably will want to help out! For 9 and overs who love Lego, Star Wars and model building this is THE Christmas Toy for 2011.
