If your experience is anything like mine, when your baby hits three months your life will revolve around mopping up puddles of drool and comforting her hurting gums! So, thank goodness for the Manhattan Toy Winkel Teether, which is the only soothing teether I found that helps.
To be honest Tommy’s Toys was a bit shocked to discover that my three month old was in the first stages of teething. I thought that, as most babies don’t actually cut a tooth until the 6th or 7th month, I had plenty of time before I’d be dealing with an inconsolable little darling. I already had a number of different shaped teethers and soothers, so felt confident that when the time came, I would be well prepared.

So when my baby – like many it turns out – started phase one of teething quite early (the endless drool and incessant need to bite down on something, anything for a bit of peace) I thought I had everything I needed! The problem was that my bundle of love simply wasn’t able at that age to both hold onto these other teethers and manoeuvre them successfully into her mouth! They were either too fat, or too rigid, or of a flat configuration which she couldn’t figure out how to turn round to bite on. So unless I wanted to spend most of my time rubbing her gums with my pinky finger, I had to find something else.
Manhattan Baby Toy
I explored the options and found the Manhattan Toy Winkel that seemed on paper ideal; and in reality even better! Its multiple plastic loops and spherical configuration mean that small babies can easily grip one or two of the loops and bite onto a different opposite loop. Also key for younger babies is that the loops are only around 5mm diameter, so they can easily get them into their mouths. And an added factor that is so logical is that the loops are made from a softer, more pliable and very chewable plastic – I can’t imagine why other teethers are made from such hard stuff! The Winkel can also be refrigerated to add an extra dimension of soothing comfort, and the central cube is also a rattle that adds an element of fun.
Apparently the first phase of teething can last for as long as three months before the first tooth actually appears. Our baby is now 5 months old and still loving the Manhattan Toy Winkel. It seems very durable, so I expect it to last through all her teething, and would highly recommend it! For more baby toys visit our Baby catergory page.
Also good to know…
The Manhattan Winkel is available in both the classic color scheme (orange, blue, green and purple loops around a red cube with yellow polka dots) or you can now also get the Manhattan Winkel Vibrant Teether. It is exactly the same clever and soothing configuration, but with yellow, orange, green and red loops around a black and white striped cube instead.
