This sturdy and robust Melissa and Doug easel is a firm favourite here at Tommys Toys, not least because it comes from the quality Melissa and Doug range that consistently brings out products that are both well made and well thought out. Ideal for kids aged 3 and up, the best thing about this easel is the variety of art media that your child can use with it.
Not only does it have on one side a chalkboard and on the other side a dry-erase marker board, but there is also a dowel rod for holding a roll of paper on with a clever and safe paper-cutting feature at the top of the board and four paper clips. So you can cut swathes of paper and clip them onto either side of the easel too so that your child can also paint or use crayons. Plus as both sides of the easel have art making surfaces, you can have two children using the easel at the same time!
You’ll also be pleased to know that Melissa and Doug have also factored in making this art easel for kids easy to clean. The two plastic trays that fit onto each side of the board to provide holders for paint, crayons and chalk, are attached with large plastic screws that are simplicity itself to undo, so that you can wash the trays in your sink. The two boards can also be removed for cleaning in the same way.

The only small downside about this Melissa and Doug easel is that you have to buy the paper and art media accessories as extras – but seeing as Melissa and Doug have great ranges of all of these items, including the paper, paint and brushes set, artist’s smock and more, there’s no end to the creative fun!
Tommy has included this art easel for kids in his top toys for Christmas 2011 but frankly its always a great educational toy anytime of the year, each and every year.
