Monster High Lagoona Blue Doll
For girls (and parents) who are looking for the antedote to all the sugary pink super feminine fashion dolls out there, then Monster High fits the bill. There’s nothing cutsey about these characters – these ghoulish gals and dudes are seriously on-trend, what with the rise and rise of vampire/ zombie/ monster movie trend aimed squarely at a much more sophisticated and complicated teen market. But here at Tommy’s Toys we don’t really care much for the marketing psychology of it all – what we’re interested in is whether or not this toy is any good?
Well, we think the basic concept is pretty hilarious, tongue in cheek and clever. The Monster High dolls are all supposedly the children of the most well-known characters from the monster and horror film and literature genre. And so, here we have the 15-year-old super cool Lagoona Blue. She is the daughter of the Sea Monster – according to the official website she is “ready for any kind of a scary good time whether it’s surfing, beach volleyball or checking out the bros with my girls”! She has a pet piranha called Neptuna, loves sushi and her favourite subject is – of course – Oceanography!
Monster High Dead Tired
There are several different incarnations of the Monster High dolls. This version is part of the Monster High Dead Tired range, where the dolls are all set up for a pyjama party. As Lagoona Blue needs to rehydrate at nighttime, the playset includes both the doll in her pyjamas and the hydration station where she sleeps as well as some of Lagoona’s essential night-time accessories such as her journal and, of course, her pet Neptuna. We love all the little details that enhance the characterization: Lagoona Blue’s pyjamas have a fish scale pattern on them and the doll and the pet piranha have matching sleep masks!

But what we really love about this toy, is that the walls of the Hydration Station can be filled up with water (so the doll doesn’t get wet) and then you can activate three different sequences of green and blue lights located in the base of the station creating an amazing underwater lighting effect in your room!
