Ideal for little fire fighters aged 3-7, Smokey also has a fantastic water canon that shoots out “water” balls to help put out those blazes, and is a great role model for kids everywhere.

There is nothing dinky about Smokey the Fire Truck from Matchbox. Smokey is one of the Big Rig Buddies range of large interactive truck toys from Matchbox (another in the range is Stinky the Garbage Truck). As such it is unlike any other fire truck toy we’ve ever seen: somewhere between a traditional push along truck, a type of transformer toy and a robot!
Smokey the Fire Truck has different modes for different playing options. In truck mode on all six wheels he can be pushed along, activating his lights and some of his 95 phrases and 4 songs! Then there’s the upright character mode where he is more like a robot, and also the water canon mode where Smokey will need your help to load up and launch his “water” balls.
Here at Tommy’s Toys we love the chunky, sturdiness of this toy for boys, the amusing way his mouth moves and the fun phrases that he comes out with such as “Load me up, chief!” and “Let’s put the wet stuff on the red stuff”; it’s also really great that there is a sleep mode feature when no-one is playing with him so that t he’s not making random noises all the time! On the down side changing playing modes is not that easy, so younger kids might need a hand, and I’m not convinced that a technologically-savvy 7 year old would really be into it.
But Smokey the Fire Truck is definitely a little out of the ordinary and is THE toy fire truck for all young fire fighting heroes this Christmas 2011! Want to see the real thing? Check out these fire trucks!
