OK, Tommy’s Toys luurves Spy Gears Ultimate Spy Watch for two reasons. Firstly because it’s made by Wild Planet which is a very cool toy company and secondly because….COME ON… IT’S A SPY WATCH PEOPLE! Sure some boys want to be astronauts, Spiderman or ? but every boy at some point wants to be a spy, right? Spy gadgets were cool when I was a kid, they’re cool now and they’ll be cool forever and this spy watch is no exception, in fact, as the name suggests it’s the ULTIMATE Spy watch!
For ages 6 to 10 years old
The Spy Gear Ultimate Spy watch is not to be confused with SpyNets Video Spy watch. SpyNet do have some great products and their watch is pretty cool but for value and features I believe Spy Gears Ultimate spy watch is a better top toy. The beauty of Spy Gears spy watch is that it encourages a child’s imagination rather than leading them by the hand.
Some toys, I would argue, are too linear which is to say there’s just a few things you can do with them and once you get bored of doing those things they toys value is over. Other toys, like many from Wild Plant, have great features that spark the imagination and therefore have a longer shelf life as your child find new ways of using them.
There are eight features on this watch and while none of them are ground breaking in terms of technology they all add a new element to a child’s secret spy world of make believe.
1. Secret Paper – Allows young spies to write encrypted messages to their colleagues.
2. Secret Capsules – Place the secret notes in the special capsules attached to the watch and hide them for special delivery to your spy network.
3. Decoding screen – The encrypted messages can only be read using the decoding screen attached to watches interlocking facia.
4. Stopwatch – Every spy needs to be accurate to the second!
5. World Time – Your missions are likely to take you all over the world so you’ll need to know what time it is in Minsk!
6. Motion Sensor Alarm and Time Stamp – Never be surprised by the enemy again and always keep your watch safe. With the time stamp you’ll know exactly when you equipment was tampered with!
7. Night Vision – With the built in night light you’ll still be able to carry out missions in the dark.
8. Alarm – Never miss another important rendezvous.
The crazy thing is that, as you may know, you can buy real spy gear these days via specialised electronic shops or via the internet. So why buy a cheap plastic toy spy watch? Simply because playing is all about make believe and wonder. In real life spies and spying is actually quite grubby, unpleasant and not at all glamorous, but there’s no reason why your child needs to know that yet.
