I don’t suppose this Ultimate FX Lightsaber is going to be very popular. After all who wants to pretend they’re a Jedi, fighting the forces of darkness with their very own Lightsaber that makes all the authentic noises from the movies? Nobody right? WRONG! I WANT ONE…NOW! Can it really be 34 years since the first Star Wars film!!? Yes, Tommy’s Toys is old enough to remember seeing that first movie at the cinema and from the moment the massive space cruiser thundered over the top of the screen, chasing that much smaller ship, in the opening sequence nothing was ever the same again for this young Jedi! Of course the whole movie was amazing, but the Lightsaber battles were something very special and for months after my friends and I were still running round with imaginary Lightsabers making all the noises with our mouths. Ahhh…simpler times!
FX Lightsaber Duels
Well there’s no need for your kids to take such a low tech approach to their star Wars battle. For around $30 your boy can wield the real deal and more importantly so can you! Let’s face it your kids are going to love it, but don’t pretend that you’re not going to want to play with it too. In fact I would love to know how many dads bought two of these so they could have Lightsaber battles with their sons. Quite a few I’m thinking. Anyway, when I was choosing toys for my Top 10 Toys for Boys list I knew a Star Wars toy had to be on there somewhere and this is it!
FX Lightsaber Review
There’s no disgrace in a grown man wanting to play with this Ultimate FX Lightsaber (honest) because it really is awesome. It looks really authentic but isn’t heavy or difficult for a young kid to use. From the moment you switch it on you know it’s very cool. The FX Lightsaber powers up with the same noise and it lights up from the hilt to the tip just like the real thing. The blade itself is made of a good sturdy plastic, which means you can have a good battle with it, and the light is really very strong and bright. Dim the lights for optimum effect and don’t bash it too hard if you want it to last forever! The FX Lightsaber comes in a Darth Vader version, which has a predominantly black handle, or an Anakin version so it’s up to you which side of the force you want to fight for.
The realistic sound effects continue throughout. When turned on, but stationary, it hums satisfyingly and when you sweep the blade through the air it makes the appropriate vibrating noise. Most importantly though when you hit something it makes that oh so authentic electrical crackling noise and the light flickers just like the real thing! Did I mention how this great toy for boys is just like the real thing?
